Scent Dance ·He Xuntian Works Concert


In the evening of 8th November, the world premiere concert “Scent Dance” of Professor He Xuntian, which is the contract composer of Schott Music, has been successfully as the featured performance of music series of the 16th China Shanghai International Arts Festival staged at Shanghai Oriental Art Center. The full scores of the five orchestral works at this concert will be first published by SCHOTT MUSIC GmbH & Co. KG around the world. The Israel Symphony Orchestra (ISO) performed under the conduction of the British maestro James Judd. As special guests, the four Chinese soloists Huang Ying, Sun Yingdi, He Yemo, and Ehesuma have also collaborated with ISO. The whole revenue will be donated to the rehabilitation measures of the Dunhuang Mogao-Grottos in the end, which had been listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1987.

The motif of this concert is Aroma from Another Space-time, which presents a concentrated view of He’s symphony works of recent years. Two pieces has been played at the first half of the concert. At the very beginning Whirling Udumbara II, (2012) was performed, which was written especially for string orchestra and He -drum. The second piece of the first half, Sunyata Dance (2011), was written especially for clarinet and symphony orchestra. Sunyata means empty in ancient Sanskrit word. After the charisma of structure and the impact of energies at the first half, the second half began with a comfortable and impressive atmosphere. The first piece was Pipa Pattern (2001) and the second piece was Clouds Rising Into the Lotus Flowers (2008) as the only ‘Song’ of this concert. It was created for soprano and symphony orchestra. Rupa Dance (2009), composed for piano and symphony orchestra, was performed in live by Pianist Sun Yingdi. In ancient Sanskrit word, Rupa has the meaning of color. As the last piece of the whole concert, it echoed Sunyata Dance in harmony.
